How Sleeping With Elevated Legs Helps When You Use Adjustable Beds?

The weight of your body entirely rests upon your feet. Naturally, over the years they can develop a wide range of medical conditions, leaving you practically immobilised.

The problems can be many - starting from blood clots to swelling in various parts of your limbs. Thus, if you place the legs and the knees at an elevated position when sleeping, that will go a long way in alleviating these complications. Thus, these adjustable beds help in alleviating these problems.

Here is a list of medical conditions that you can get rid of, by sleeping with elevated legs in an adjustable bed.

It Reduces Edema in the Legs and Feet

Before discussing how adjustable beds help reduce the edema, let us discuss what causes edema. The leading causes behind Edema are:
  • Build-up of fluid in lower extremities due to standing or sitting in a static posture for an extended period, more so in hot conditions
  • Venous insufficiency, which results from weak valves of veins that run through the legs. As a result of this, the heart has to pump back harder to circulate the fluid and the blood back from the veins to it.
  • Fluid build-up due to complications in the lungs. Presence of excess fluid exerts pressure on the blood vessels that lie in between the lungs and the heart.
  • Fluid retention in ankles and feet, due to congestive heart failure
  • Preeeclampsia, a complication that occurs during pregnancy
So, when you are able to sleep with your legs in an elevated position, it will naturally increase the flow of blood though the legs under the influence of the gravitational force. It will reduce the effects of edema by a considerable extent. This is where these adjustable electric beds come in handy.

What difference do these beds make?

The structure of these beds is so designed to keep the legs elevated at a particular position, so much so that it drains all the tensions from the feet and the legs. This improves the flow of blood, from the veins to the heart and vice versa. This will alleviate the pain from the legs, negating the risk of swelling in the feet.

It alleviates Varicose Veins and Lymphedema

When the varicose veins leak, it will result in the accumulation of blood and toxins within the limbs, increasing the pressure within. This results in severe pain and heaviness, along with acute tiredness. This issue can go even beyond, causing lymphedema or damage to the lymphatic system of the body.

Here again, these adjustable beds powered by electric will come in handy. They help people to raise their legs while they sleep, by negating the probability of formation of blood and fluid.
